November 1989 was a watershed year in global politics. That was the year in which the Iron Curtain was finally parted - a process which began (at least in the most visible sense) - with Lech Walesa's leadership of the Solidarity party in Poland and ended with the collapse of the Berlin Wall in November 1989.
